Taskly v1.2 Coming Along Nicely

May 26th, 2010 1 comment

Just wanted to give you a little information on the upcoming update (still working on it and will be submitting it within the next couple days) 1.2 to Taskly.

I’ve found a few bugs myself, but many of the bugs I’ve fixed for this update have been found by you, the users. It is very important for me to listen to my customers and find out what kind of issues you all are experiencing and fixing those issues as soon as possible.

Another great importance to me is features, not just any features, but the features you all want. I’ve been listening and this update will have a few new features. The main feature everyone seems to want is some sort of external application that Taskly would sync with. My plans for this are to have a Web Interface, iPad app, and later this year have a Mac and Windows app to all sync seamlessly with each other. Look forward to these great things.

One other issue that many of you are experiencing has to do with reminders (push notifications). I wish I could make this system work more flawlessly, but I can’t and that is due to the nature of which push notifications work. What happens is when any changes are made in Taskly by you, Taskly attempts to sync with my server. If Taskly finds that your device is not connected to the internet or the internet connection has a poor signal, those changes do not get synced and Taskly attempts to sync at a later time. Well, if you’ve just marked a task that was past due, as complete, or deleted the task and it doesn’t get synced to the server, you are going to receive a push notification reminder because the data on the server is has not been updated. This can seem annoying, but I have tried to make the system work to the best of its ability and am continuing to look into bettering that system.

Some good news is, once OS 4.0 comes out, local notifications will be implemented into Taskly which will allow me to make notifications work flawlessly on your devices :)

Anyhow, here are the bugs, changes, and features that I have got for 1.2 so far:

- Fix: Deleted lists were still showing in the Move Task Dialog

- Fix: Was not possible to move tasks into a Subtask List or Checklist that resided in the Inbox

- Fix: Removed “New Themes” Notification Type

- Fix: Push notification reoccurrence removed

- Fix: Deferring a task was not auto syncing with the server

- Fix: After quick adding a context, wrong icons showed up in top right

- Fix: Sometimes changing a checklist to a subtask list would cause the app to crash

+ Added defer to multi task edit, now you can defer multiple tasks at a time

+ Added consecutive quick adds to the root of the home view (when viewing all your lists)

= After adding a task via quick add and tapping the keyboards done button to continue adding tasks, the top left button changes to a Done button instead of Cancel

= Changed the look of the multi task edit buttons

I’ll be working on some more things in the next few days and 1.2 will be submitted ASAP. Thanks for all your support and input, I greatly appreciate it.

Taskly Push Notification Refinement and Info

May 25th, 2010 No comments

I’ve just made a minor update to the way push notifications work for Taskly.

The way it worked before was, if a task was past due for over 24 hours, you’d get a reminder, and then every 24 hours after that you’d still get a reminder if the task was still incomplete and past due.

Now, you will only receive a notification for tasks that are past due for 24 hours and that is it. No reoccurring notifications after the 24 hour mark.

There was also a bug, where tasks that were deleted were still having reminders sent sometimes. I’ve fixed this bug.

Of course all of these fixes only work if you have a Free Taskly account setup and have Push Notifications enabled. Also, if you are doing things in Taskly such as marking tasks complete or deleting them, Taskly is setup to auto sync with the server. If you are not on the internet when Taskly tries to auto sync, you may still receive push notifications and they may be incorrect because Taskly is not synced with the server. To fix this, connect to the internet and perform a manual sync. You can find out how to do that by visiting the Taskly Tips section of our website and referring to the Quick Actions section.

These changes are automatic and do not require you to do anything. There is not a Taskly update in the app store to make these changes take affect.

Taskly Update

May 21st, 2010 4 comments

Just a quick update to let you know that the iPad version of Taskly is coming along nicely and should be ready to go in about a month. Also, the web interface is moving along as well and I’m looking to launch both the iPad version and web interface at the same time. Taskly will sync between all versions (web, iphone/ipod touch, and iPad) seemlessly.

As for iPhone OS 4.0, Taskly will be ready for the launch and will support the new multitasking behavior and will also support the local notifications feature which will relieve the issues that some users are experiencing with Push Notifications.

I’m also currently working on an update for Taskly for iPhone which should be available in the coming weeks. I’ve added some new features, UI changes/improvements and bug fixes.

Thank you all again for your continued support, I love developing for you all.

Taskly in New & Noteworthy

May 21st, 2010 No comments

I thought it was great when I woke up this morning and noticed Taskly had been chosen to be in the New and Noteworthy section of the iTunes App Store. Check it out in the screenshot below:

Also, I’d like to thank all of you have supported me with your purchase, testing, and feedback of Taskly, I’m greatly appreciative.

Taskly v1.1 Submitted for Review

May 6th, 2010 1 comment

I’ve just submitted a new version of Taskly to the app store review monkeys. Here is the CHANGELOG:

+ Added the ability to view a task or context on the map right from the task or context.

+ Added a setting to show or not show tasks or contexts on the map that do not have any sub-items in them

- Removed the Auto Sync setting. Now, Taskly is set to always Auto Sync when the Sync Status is set to ON.

Minor Bug Fixes

Taskly is also currently on sale for $.99 and once v1.1 gets approved the price will go back up to $2.99, so be sure to get it now for the low price before it is too late.

Features for Taskly 1.1

April 23rd, 2010 No comments

I’ve been thinking about some new features I’d like to add to Taskly v1.1 (currently in development), so here is a list:

  • When viewing a location aware task, adding a button that will bring you to that task on the map
  • Custom Smart Lists – Choose what you would like in a smart list, for example: create a single Smart List that has next 7 days and past due tasks.
  • Add a setting that when turned on would remove Subtask Lists and Checklists from the map if there are no incomplete tasks in their respective lists.
  • Remove Auto Sync from Settings and make Taskly always auto sync if the Taskly Account is active.
  • Add more flexibility for setting reminder times.

These are just a few of the things I’ve been thinking about adding and of course I’ll be fixing any bugs that you or I have been experiencing. If you have any other features you’d like to see, leave them in the comments.
